Starting seeds

Starting seeds

A slow down of activity with gardening in the last week. Lights are hung and some seeds started. They have sprouted and for year old seeds not too many dead ones. They will stay in the seedling tray for another week, then it will be time to go into the bins.

We also finalized the layout for the yard garden for this summer. We have some old raised beds but will be tearing those down and moving the vegetables around. We are tripling our bed space, and focusing a lot on beans and tomatoes. We have done pole beans before, but are going to have a few bush beans. The hope is that we won’t have to buy any of those after this year. We are also going to try some heirloom varieties so that we can dry the seeds out and try them next year as well. The first seeds for the outdoor garden will start next weekend. I will also have some growing inside to see what the difference is between growth rates and yields of the indoor and out door plants.
